Scale labels are direct thermal labels, which print without the use of a ribbon. The ink is already embedded within the label material and appears when exposed to the heat of the printhead.

Direct thermal labels can be perforated or non-perforated with black timing marks or gap sensors, or continuous for customizable label sizes.

Scale labels come on a roll with multiple core diameters, depending on the printer brand. They are most commonly used for short applications on packaged food products, and can be applied in refrigerated and non-refrigerated environments.
